New Zealand disappoints on its stance against climate change

Do the images used to portray New Zealand match the reality?

New Zealand made a statement on the sly to avoid any outcry, but it’s a huge disappointment nonetheless, just read their statement.

“Establishing a fund without certainty about what that means would require high levels of confidence that we have a shared understanding of what we are working on, and how.  Listening to the interventions, it seems that this is not the case.”

“New Zealand has already said they think it’s urgent.  We’ve committed funds this week to underline that point.  But we also think we need to get it right.

“At this COP, we have an opportunity to move towards the common understanding we need by agreeing on some principles that ensure a fund is as useful as possible.

We’re a long way from New Zealand, which is way ahead of the game on climate change and wants to look like a leader in the field, having trumpeted over NZ$20 million for loss and damage funding, but this latest declaration is a disgrace.
New Zealand is hiding behind the details that will be discussed on the structure of a facility by 2024, but it’s impossible to wait another year to adopt a decision at a COP on the need for a loss and damage financing facility.
