According to the latest GEIC report (2013), average sea levels rose by 19 cm between 1901 and 2010. The average rate of rise was around 1.7 mm/year during the 20th century. This rate rose to around 3.2 mm/year between 1993 and 2010.

With the help of a number of satellites, it was possible to observe the rise in sea levels between 1992 and 2012 by the European Space Agency, showing the non-homogeneous nature of this rise. Off the Philippines, for example, the ocean rose by more than 10 mm/year between 1992 and 2012, while sea levels fell in a few places south of Alaska.
