They try to demonstrate that muscular activity provokes (and is provoked by) emotions. The team, therefore, asked participants to hold a pen between their teeth to force them to reproduce the contractions of a smile. They are then asked to evaluate the positivity of videos, such as \u201csad\u201d or \u201chappy\u201d walks, as visual stimuli. A second group without a pen had to judge the images in the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results are conclusive. Subjects with a pen in their mouth judge a situation as happy more easily than others. The forced smile stimulates the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain, which sends signals encouraging a more positive state of mind and body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen your muscles tell you, you\u2019re happy, you are more likely to see the world around you positively,\u201d said Fernando Marmolejo-Ramos, author of the study<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/meips\/ADKq_NZIY66X5O0s4kirzlGOH2VxqJO-OSDZsqfnYeCVVCY9Un_Yo0LfuXS48e5o2hhPW3VcplveL0Y9uD2WZX491cSgqU_9avK4_nchpaQj-Ze8U1NiHWb2WLu-CjMmnr-6L69qWplt-XQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/img.freepik.com\/premium-photo\/smiling-woman-looking-away_629685-76821.jpg\" width=\"626\" height=\"417\" alt=\"smiling woman looking away\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several scientists have already demonstrated the influence of muscles on emotions and vice versa. The novelty of the study lies in not only facial but also bodily responses to positivity. In short, a simple joyful gait and a big smile can make you physically happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Treating mental illnesses with a smile<\/strong><br>This discovery may also have implications for how to treat anxiety, phobias, or depression. Australian researchers have demonstrated the crucial role of the amygdala in transmitting muscle signals into emotional signals. They have thus proven the link between action and perception, which makes \u201cfake it until you make it\u201d therapeutic approaches credible. Self-persuasion can open a new path in medicine. Not only do they elevate your mood, but they also relax your body and reduce physical pain. Smiling is a natural drug.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*&nbsp;Endorphins (contracted from endogenous morphine) are peptides produced in the brain that block the perception of pain and increase feelings of wellbeing.<br>They are produced and stored in the pituitary gland of the brain. Endorphins are endogenous painkillers often produced in the brain and adrenal medulla during physical exercise or orgasm and inhibit pain, muscle cramps, and relieve stress.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Serotonin, a&nbsp;substance that is found mostly in the digestive tract, central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), and platelets.
